PRP: The All Natural Solution for Younger-Looking Skin

PRP skin rejuvention available at Holistic OB/GYN & Midwifery in Clifton, New Jersey

You’ve lost that youthful glow and firmness in your face and neck, and you want it back. But you value your health, and always take the natural route whenever possible, which means you probably don’t like the idea of going under the knife to get a face or neck lift just to rejuvenate your skin.

Fortunately, these days, your quest for an all-natural solution to facial aging is closer than you might think. The latest, most effective minimally invasive anti-aging therapy — platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) — is made from the supercharged healing properties of your own blood.

At Holistic OB/GYN & Midwifery, our expert practitioner and aesthetician Paola A. Escobar, MSN, MBA-HCM, CNM, is also committed to natural, safe remedies. That’s why we offer the power of PRP rejuvenation in the comfort and privacy of our Clifton, New Jersey, offices.

Just a spoonful of PRP…

Your PRP therapy starts with a small donation: Paola gently withdraws between 2-4 tablespoons of blood from your arm. The procedure is just as quick and easy as a blood test. Within minutes, she and the team prepare the blood by spinning it in a specially designed centrifuge that separates the liquid part (plasma) from the solids, including the essential platelets.

Platelets are small, plate-shaped cell fragments that your body uses to heal wounds and rebuild skin and blood vessels after an injury. Platelets are filled with ingredients such as growth factors that aid your body build strong new tissues.

After Paola isolates your platelets, she mixes them with a small amount of plasma to create a healing serum. The PRP serum contains up 5-10 times the number of platelets as unprocessed blood.

How would you like your PRP?

Once she’s prepared your PRP serum, Paola delivers the healing powers of the super-concentrated platelets either by direct injection, microneedling, or a combination of both. PRP can therapy can also be combined with Botox®, for a completely rejuvenated face and neck without an incision or stitch.

PRP injections

If you opt for PRP injections, Paola uses a very fine needle to deliver the serum directly into areas of your face where you’ve lost volume, such as the nasolabial folds (NLF). Like collagen-building dermal fillers, the PRP plumps up the lines and folds by stimulating your body to produce more of the important proteins, collagen, and elastin.

Collagen is a long-strand protein that creates a supportive matrix for your skin. When your collagen is young and strong, your skin is too. As the collagen degrades over time and with sun exposure, it loses its shape, leading to sagging and thinning skin.

Elastin is another important protein that allows your skin to move and retain its shape. You know you’ve lost elastin when your skin doesn’t snap back into place after you’ve pulled or stretched it. The PRP injections stimulate your skin to rebuild itself from the deepest layers with new collagen and elastin.

PRP microneedling

You may have heard about microneedling, which is a rejuvenation technique that uses tiny needles to create wounds in the skin that stimulate healing. While microneedling with an aesthetic device such as the Dermapen® is an effective rejuvenating therapy on its own, combining microneedling with PRP boosts both treatments.

Paolo first brushes the surface of your skin with PRP. She then uses the Dermapen to create thousands of microwounds over your face, neck, decollétage, and chest. These wounds trigger your skin’s healing processes so that your skin undergoes collagen remodeling to heal the tiny holes and create fresh, thicker, more supported skin.

The PRP travels down into the thousands of tiny wound channels, infusing the deep layers of your skin with healing stem cells and growth factors. The entire treatment can be completed in less than an hour. You can receive targeted PRP injections in the same session.

An all-natural process

Because PRP injections and microneedling prompt your body to heal itself at an accelerated rate, your results accrue over weeks to months. You may notice a difference in your skin right after your treatment, but the real benefits occur during the collagen remodeling process, when your skin not only becomes more evenly toned and glowing, but also rebuilds itself to resolve issues such as fine lines, wrinkles, and brown spots.

Benefits of PRP include:

After your skin has rebuilt and rejuvenated itself with PRP, you’ll notice that you look and feel younger. Results can last for up to 18 months before you need a touch-up.
